Doesn’t this scene tempt to write a murakamiesque story, David? The cat suddenly starts talking and tells Watanabe-san everything it thinks about him. Then he climbs the tree and the cat disappears in thin air. A murakamiesque / carrollesque story. Anyway, I honestly waited there for a couple of minutes, then walked on. I assume the cat climbed down since I have not heard any fire truck sirens (and you can hear them miles away from).
