Namahage
by Alexey Kn
Namahage (生剥) in traditional Japanese folklore is a demonlike being, portrayed by men wearing hefty oni (ogre) masks and traditional straw capes (mino) during a New Year’s ritual of the Oga Peninsula area of Akita Prefecture in northern Honshū, Japan. And these demonlike beings I have seen performing on the Akita Wonderful Festival 2020 in Tokyo, Yoyogi Park. I also have shot a short video of their drumming performance. Check it out here.

A Failed Family Photo Shoot?
by Alexey Kn
Kids are wonderful, aren’t they? This was a great location – Japan Open Air Folk House Museum in Kawasaki. With many old Japanese farm houses in red and yellow autumn leaves ambience. Very nice location for a family photo shoot, right? If there were not an energetic child… What do you think: Did this photo shoot fail? :D
